In the video message released on Star Sports channel, Sanjeev Goenka is explaining the reasons for retaining Puran, Bishnoi, Badoni, Mohsin and Mayank in the team. “It was a simple idea to go with players who have a winning mentality, who put the team ahead of their individual goals and individual aspirations, and we wanted to retain as much of the core as we could,” he said.

Due to this statement, fans are speculating that Sanjeev Goenka may have taken a dig at KL Rahul. Some fans have even said that Rahul should play a stormy innings against the Lucknow team in the next season and avenge his insult.
Sanjeev further revealed that it took him less than two minutes to select Nicholas Pooran as the first retention. The Lucknow franchise owner said, “Our first retention which was an automatic choice happened in less than two minutes. We have two uncapped retentions which are Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni. It was a process which involved Zaheer Khan, Justin Langer and the analyst, we have gone with three bowlers from previous seasons, there was no need to think too much about Puran, who has done well for us at No. 6 or No. 7.
