Rohit Sharma again won hearts with his decision, said – 'I am happy to be retained at number four'
Before the mega auction of IPL 2025, all the teams have shared the list of their retained players. In this series, Mumbai Indians have also released the list of their five players. These also include the name of Mumbai Indians (MI) five-time IPL winning captain Rohit Sharma, who has been kept as the fourth retained player.
Rohit has been retained for IPL 2025 for Rs 16.30 crore and you will be surprised to hear that Rohit himself decided to go for the fourth number retention and he also openly talked about it. Rohit, a key part of Mumbai Indians' success story, is behind Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 18 crore), Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 16.35 crore each) in terms of retention value. Nevertheless, he is satisfied with the team's decision to give priority to players still active in international cricket.
In an interview with Jio Cinema, Rohit shared his perspective on the retention lineup and why he thinks it is the right decision. Sharma said, “Since I have retired from the T20 format, I feel this is the right place for me. Players who have represented the national team at the highest level should be given priority. That's what I believe.” And I am very happy with it.”
The upcoming IPL season will be particularly important for Rohit Sharma, as it will be his only involvement in T20 cricket since he announced his retirement from international T20 following India's World Cup win. Rohit concluded by saying, “I have played a lot of cricket in Mumbai. This is where I started my cricket career. This city is very, very special. When you play for so long, you become part of the team. Make lots of memories together.”
