Top-3 players who had the most expensive retention in IPL 2025, 'King Virat Kohli' is not at number-1
All the teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) have released the list of their retained players for the upcoming season on Diwali last Thursday (31 October). This is the reason that today through this special article, we are going to tell you the names of those top-3 players who became rich on the day of Diwali and emerged as the biggest retention before the upcoming IPL season.
3. Nicholas Pooran
Lucknow Super Giants have retained Caribbean star batsman Nicholas Pooran in the team as their biggest retention. He has spent Rs 21 crore in the name of Puran. It is noteworthy that this is Rs 5 crore more than the amount Nicholas Puran received last season. This Caribbean batsman won everyone's hearts with his explosive batting in IPL 2024. He scored a total of 499 runs in 14 matches at an average of 62.38 and strike rate of 178.21. During this period, Puran had hit 35 fours and 36 sixes.
2. Virat Kohli
It is impossible that Team India's star batsman Virat Kohli, who has been playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL since 2008, is not included in this list.
Once again RCB has spent lavishly on Virat. He has retained King Kohli for the full amount of Rs 21 crore. It is noteworthy that till date no team has spent so much money to retain its Indian player. Also know that Virat was playing for RCB for the last two seasons for Rs 15 crore. Virat has more than 8000 runs in his name in IPL and he is the only player in the tournament to do so.
1. Heinrich Klaasen
South Africa's explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen was the most expensive retention in IPL 2025. Yes, that's what happened. Heinrich Klaasen, who was playing IPL on a salary of Rs 5.25 crore till last season, has now been retained by SRH for the full amount of Rs 23 crore. It is noteworthy that with this he has now become the most expensive retained player in IPL history.
Also know that he has created havoc in the tournament for the last two seasons. In the year 2023, Klaasen played 12 matches in the season in which he scored 448 runs by hitting 32 fours and 25 sixes. During this period his average was around 50 and strike rate was around 177. Something similar was seen last season too when Klaasen played 16 matches in the season and scored 479 runs at an average of around 40 and a strike rate of 171.07. In IPL 2024, he hit 19 fours and 38 sixes. This is the reason why Sunrisers offered him more money than captain Pat Cummins and Travis Head.
