Hong Kong actress Shirley Yim, known for her role as Li Mochou in “The Return of the Condor Heroes,” recently shared her contentment with single life, viewing romantic relationships as overly complicated.

The 59-year-old actress, who recently started sharing videos on Douyin to connect with her fans, shared that she’s grown content with single life and has no desire for dating or marriage. “It’s not that past relationships have left me traumatized, but I just find love too complicated and troublesome,” she said.

Yim mentioned that the need to update a partner on her whereabouts feels restrictive. She also reflected on a past relationship where her ex-boyfriend’s jealousy added stress to her life.

Reflecting on her first love, the late Norman Chui, she recalled admiring him in his role as a martial arts master in “The Transformation of the Heavenly Silkworm.” A tender kiss on the cheek from Chui during an event in Thailand left her deeply moved. At the time, Yim didn’t know Chui was married; he later divorced to be with her, and they had two children together, Edward and Erica Chui.

After their eventual separation, Yim raised her children alone, crediting her resilience and positive mindset for helping her through the hardships. “If I hadn’t stayed positive, I wouldn’t have made it this far,” she revealed. Yim acknowledged that she once held resentment toward Chui but has since let it go.

Following Chui’s passing from esophageal cancer on Sept. 1 at age 74, Yim made a rare social media post on Sept. 15, honoring him with a simple message: “Rest in peace, Norman Chui.”

Shirley, the younger sister of actress Michelle Yim, was described by Michelle as both quiet and intense in her feelings—a quality she believes is both her strength and weakness.

While Shirley left an unforgettable mark with her portrayal of the betrayed and vengeful Li Mochou, she now appears less frequently in films but occasionally participates in TV shows and events.
