Bopanna-Ebden pair falls short in Rolex Paris Masters Quarterfinals

In a closely contested Rolex Paris Masters quarterfinal, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden suffered a tough defeat against the Dutch-Croatian duo of Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic.

Despite their strong performance, the Indo-Australian pair lost 6-7, 5-7 on Friday, concluding their campaign in Paris.

The match had its intense moments, particularly in the first set, which went into a nail-biting tie-breaker.

Both teams pushed hard, but the Dutch-Croatian pair finally clinched it with a 15-13 scoreline.

In tie-breakers, once the set reaches 6-6, the first team to score 7 points with at least a 2-point lead wins. This kept both teams on edge until Koolhof and Mektic’s decisive point.

Bopanna and Ebden had previously advanced to the quarterfinals with a straight-set victory over Alexander Zverev and Marcelo Melo, winning 6-4, 7-6(5) on Tuesday.

This season, they’ve had a remarkable journey, capturing titles at the Australian Open and Miami Open, and reaching the finals in Adelaide and the French Open semifinals.

Now, the seasoned pair heads to Turin for the season-ending ATP Finals from November 10-17, where they will compete among the world’s top eight doubles teams.

This marks Bopanna’s fourth appearance at the event, after a history-making season that saw him, at age 43, become the oldest World No. 1 in men’s doubles.
