KKR’s CEO drops a massive bombshell on Shreyas Iyer, Check what he said

The CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders, Venky Mysore, revealed the reason surrounding the decision not to keep Shreyas Iyer in advance of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction.

Again, KKR retains its previous winning captain in the auction pool after losing the management talks. He felt he, being an IPL winning captain deserved much more than the Rs 12.25 crore salary that he was earning, which was not the feeling of the KKR owners.

The following players were retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders: Rinku Singh (INR 13 Crore). Sunil Narine (INR 12 Crore). Andre Russell (INR 12 Crore). Varun Chakravarthy (INR 12 Crore). Harshit Rana (INR 4 Crore). Ramandeep Singh (INR 4 Crore).

Venky Mysore stated in a recent meeting that one of the main reasons any retained player is Shreyas Iyer since its recall from 2022 when KKR bought him at 12.25 crore Indian rupees.

“Interesting things about retention are so many aspects to it and forces as play. But what is fundamental to a retention that most people sometimes don’t understand is that it’s a matter of mutually agreeing. It is not a one-sided right that a franchise has. The player also has to consider various factors and agree,” said Mysore to Rev Sports.

“At times, somewhere along the line that understanding doesn’t happen for multiple reasons; it can be money or someone feels like they want to explore their worth or whatever other reason. That does influence a decision as well, ultimately, but he was No.1 on our list.”

“He is captain and we have to build around that leadership and we picked him in 2022 specifically for that. Unfortunately, he got injured in 2023. The moment he came back, he got back his captaincy. He was a key player, did great work and I had a good equation with him. But at the end of the day, everybody also has to take their own call and what is best for them and what is the way forward,” noted Mysore.

“GMR, one of the co-owners has great faith in Iyer. He has been promised captaincy and if need be, DC with their handsome auction purse of nearly Rs 75 crore, can go north of Rs 20 crore,” a top official of a franchise told PTI.

“There won’t be too many teams that would want Iyer the T20 batter but just to ensure DC spends a bomb on a player, they might get into a bidding war for Iyer,” another official of the IPL franchise mentioned.
