IPL 2025: Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, along with all the teams, Delhi Capitals also released the retention list, in which everyone was surprised to not see the name of Rishabh Pant. The franchise paved the way for the mega auction by releasing its captain. However, now the reason has been revealed due to which Pant decided to part ways with DC.

Why did Rishabh Pant leave Delhi?

Delhi Capitals and Rishabh Pant have now parted ways. Pant's name was not in the list of retained players released before the mega auction. Since then it was believed that Pant himself had included himself in the mega auction of his own free will. Now reports have revealed the reason due to which he has separated from DC.

If reports are to be believed, Rishabh Pant was not happy with the decision to make Hemang Badani the head coach and Venugopal Rao as the director of cricket in DC. Apart from this, it is reported that Pant was also unhappy with the GMR Group limiting his power. Not only this, in another report it has been said that Delhi Capitals was thinking of snatching the captaincy from Rishabh Pant and handing it over to Akshar Patel.

What did Parth Jindal say?

Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal reacted after the release of IPL 2025 retention list. He said, “In Akshar, Kuldeep, Tristan and Abhishek, we have the best mix of experience and youngsters, and I am very happy with our retention. I wanted to retain more players playing for DC, but due to the rules, we will have to select according to the strategy.”

Pant was with DC for 7 years

Rishabh Pant made his IPL debut in 2016 while being a part of Delhi Capitals. He stayed with this team from 2016 to 2024. After Shreyas Iyer, the franchise had handed over the command of the team to Pant in IPL 2021. However, the team is still in search of its first trophy. Finally, Pant has taken the difficult decision of separating from the franchise after 9 years.
