Another low for the Red Devils: Manchester United set unwanted record in Chelsea draw
New Delhi: Manchester United’s disappointing start to the season continued with a lacklustre 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea in interim boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s Premier League debut. The result continued a string of disappointing results from the Red Devils as they sit 13th in the Premier League table following the first 10 games of the season. Last night’s draw meant that the club have no set another unwanted record in the process.
The Red Devils have garnered just 12 points from the first 10 games of the season, less than teams like Bournemouth, Fulham, Brentford and Nottingham Forest, who sit third on the table. With just 12 points at this stage, this is the fewest points any Manchester United squad has picked up after the first 10 games of a Premier League season. This makes it their worst start to the Premier League campaign ever after 10 games.

The last time United picked up fewer points than they have currently was before the Premier League existed, during the 1986/87 season, which saw them pick up just eight points in 10 games before finishing 11th in the league. This was the club’s first season under a certain Scottish manager, who remained in charge of the club for 26 seasons and guided them to 13 Premier League titles, Sir Alex Ferguson.
The club’s struggles are visible in attack with the Manchester-based side struggling to score goals. With only nine goals in 10 league games this season, they are the third-worst goalscoring record this season. They’re behind only Southampton and Crystal Palace, both of whom are involved in the relegation battle currently. This is their fewest return since the 1973/74 season, where they also scored nine after the first ten games but went on to be relegated from the top flight that season.
Can they turn things around this season?
It’s done.
Welcome to Manchester United, Ruben Amorim 🇵🇹🤝🔴#MUFC

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is only left with two more matches in charge before new permanent manager, Ruben Amorim, takes charge of the club. The Dutchman will oversee Thursday’s UEFA Europa League clash with PAOK before facing the side he crushed 5-2 in his debut as Manchester United manager, Leicester City. The club’s new manager, Amorim, will take charge of the club from November 11, 2024.
Amorim comes to the club with a lot of reputation and success behind him. He spent four years in Lisbon where he helped Sporting CP to a first league title in 19 years before guiding them to another league title at the end of last season. He started the current season in brilliant fashion as well with ten wins out of ten, scoring 35 goals in the process and conceding just three. With his track record in Portugal, he looks to be the correct man for Untied to bring back the glory days of the club.
