Number of patients increased due to pollution in Delhi; SC reprimanded AAP government, also sought answers from Haryana-Punjab

New Delhi: In the capital Delhi, which is struggling with air pollution, breathing is proving dangerous for health. The Supreme Court has become strict regarding the increasing air quality index in Delhi and surrounding areas. While hearing the case, the court has reprimanded the Delhi government. A bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Augustine George Masih said that strict action like sealing the campus is needed against those violating the ban.

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court, taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, has made sharp remarks on the Delhi government. The court said that the ban on firecrackers could hardly be enforced in the state. The government will have to do something so that the ban on firecrackers is not violated next year.

Court seeks answers from Delhi government and police commissioner

Regarding this matter, the Supreme Court has sought information not only from the Delhi Government but also from the Police Commissioner about the steps taken to effectively implement the ban on firecrackers. Delhi Police will have to reply by the next date, 14th November.

Haryana and Punjab will submit report on stubble

Apart from Delhi Police, the court has sought answers from Haryana and Punjab governments. During the hearing in the Supreme Court, Amicus Curiae told that crop residues are being burnt on a large scale in the fields during Diwali. Due to the smoke of which air pollution is continuously increasing in the surrounding areas including Delhi. A day before Diwali, 160 people had set fire to crop residue. On the day of Diwali this number increased to 560. Due to which a 3 times increase in pollution was recorded.

No control on stubble in Punjab and Haryana

The bench hearing the pollution issue has asked the governments of Punjab and Haryana to file their reply on November 14 on the increase in incidents of farm fires and stubble burning during the last 10 days of October. Along with this, the Supreme Court said that the Delhi government should tell through an affidavit whether stubble has been burnt even within the limits of Delhi. Patients increased in Delhi

It is noteworthy that on the day of Diwali, air pollution has suddenly increased rapidly in Delhi. Delhi's air is now considered dangerous. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), till 7 am on Monday, AQI was beyond 400 in many monitoring stations of Delhi. With the increase in pollution, the number of patients suffering from respiratory diseases like cough, cold, fever, asthma, bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (CPOD) in Delhi hospitals has increased by 35%.
