The Singapore Airlines passenger flight from Chennai to Singapore was set to take off at midnight yesterday. When the luggage of a passenger named David (55) who had come to travel in the flight was checked, there was a satellite phone in it.
The use of satellite phones is banned in India due to security reasons. If foreign travelers bring a satellite phone, security officials will purchase it and give a receipt. Later, when the traveler returns from India, it is customary to return the phone. But security officials did not allow the American passenger, who was carrying a satellite phone in violation of the ban, to board the plane.
The American traveler said, 'A few days ago I came to Delhi from America, from there went on a trip to Andaman and from Andaman came to Chennai. I am going from Chennai to Singapore. Satellite phones brought from the US are not banned at any airport. David said, “There is no restriction on satellite phones in our country. Authorities canceled his trip to Singapore and confiscated his satellite phone. Later, they handed him over and his satellite phone to the Chennai Airport Police. Police have registered the case and are investigating.
