HMD’s latest survey of 10,000 parents worldwide highlighted that more than half of parents regret introducing smartphones to their children at an early age. According to the data, parents felt that the traditional smartphone experience disrupted essential parts of their children’s lives – from family interactions and sleep cycles to physical activity and socializing. This survey coincided with the launch of The Better Phone ProjectHMD’s initiative aimed at creating tech solutions that prioritize well-being over continuous connectivity.
As part of this project, HMD and Xplora have pledged to develop a line of devices that stand as a “healthy alternative” to conventional smartphones, hoping to create a middle ground where young users can benefit from digital access without becoming over-reliant.
Features and Potential Launch Timeline
While details about the device’s name, features, or release date remain under wraps, speculations are growing. Given HMD’s introduction of “Detox Mode” in previous models like the HMD Skyline and HMD Fusion, it’s expected that this children’s phone will also prioritize screen-time management features and productivity-focused apps. Parents can expect this device to incorporate tools aimed at reinforcing good habits rather than encouraging continuous screen interaction.
Many industry insiders suggest that the HMD and Xplora collaboration device could make its debut at the Mobile World Congress 2025, scheduled for March.

Leaks hint at the release of a new smartphone, the HMD Sage, which appears to carry forward the sleek designs of its predecessors, such as the HMD Skyline and HMD Crest. Expected to be powered by a Unisoc T760 5G chipset, the HMD Sage could feature a 50MP camera on both its rear and front for high-quality selfies, along with support for 33W fast charging.
