Babar Azam Getting Bowled by Zamba

Babar Azam Getting Bowled by Zamba: On his return to international cricket, Pakistan’s superstar batsman Babar Azam failed to convert his start in the first ODI against Australia.

The Australia vs Pakistan ODI series got underway on Monday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where the host skipper, Pat Cummins, won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The visitors, who are being led by new captain Mohammad Rizwan, handed ODI debuts to opening batsman Saim Ayub and middle-order batsman Irfan Khan; both were handed their debut caps by the legendary speedster Wasim Akram.

Pakistan also welcomed the returning trio of Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah. The trio were “rested” after the first Test against England, which Pakistan lost before winning the next two without their three high-profile players.

Babar Azam falls for 37, fails to convert his good start

The Aussies kept the pressure tight on the Asian side with their relentless bowling. The pressure built through dot balls resulted in wickets and confused shots as Pakistan slumped to 70/4 in 19 overs.

The third of those four wickets was that of Babar. Azam seems to have worked well during his break on his technique and temperament, as he looked good in his stay of 37 (44), during which he played positively while creaming four sumptuous boundaries.

However, his knock was ended by leg-spinner Adam Zampa in his first over of the match. Zampa bowled a length delivery—a slider that skidded on straight—that was a tad on the shorter side of the good length area but not short enough for Babar to play on the backfoot.

Babar rocked back to steer on the offside while exposing his off and middle stumps. The low bounce aided Zampa: the ball stayed low and went past Babar’s outside edge to hit the off-stump. Babar had a grim look on his face as he knew he had missed out on notching a big score after getting set.

Meanwhile, debutant Ayub was cleaned up by Mitchell Starc early on. The left-arm seamer also knicked Abdullah Shafique. Babar was the third wicket, falling to Zampa’s spin, and then skipper Cummins got rid of Kamran Ghulam to leave the visitors reeling at 70/4 in 19 overs.
