Shakib Al Hasan involved in a new controversy during Surrey stint in the County Championship

As reported by cricbuzzShakib Al Hasan, the all-rounder from Bangladesh, has been asked by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to have his bowling action analyzed.

This request comes after umpires reported him during his recent appearance for Surrey in the County Championship. Shakib made an impressive comeback, taking nine wickets in a match against Somerset at Taunton in September, marking his first appearance in the Championship since his brief time with Worcestershire in 2010-11.

Shakib joined Surrey on a short-term deal to bolster the team during a critical period when eight players were away on international duty, including both their spinners, Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence. Despite his strong performance, he could not help Surrey secure a win, as they suffered a surprising 111-run defeat to Somerset, which momentarily disrupted their quest for a third consecutive Championship title.

During the match, Shakib bowled over 63 overs and did not receive any no-balls for throwing. However, it was later revealed that the on-field umpires, Steve O’Shaughnessy and David Millns, considered his bowling action to be questionable.

While he is not suspended, discussions are underway for Shakib to undergo additional testing at an approved location, which is expected to take place in the coming weeks. This is the first instance in Shakib’s lengthy career, spanning two decades and featuring 712 wickets in 447 international matches, where his bowling action has come under scrutiny.

Shakib has made himself unavailable for the ODI series against Afghanistan

Shakib Al Hasan has not participated in any international matches for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team since his appearance in the Test series against India. He was scheduled to play what was to be his farewell Test in Bangladesh, however, he opted not to travel to the country at the last minute, citing security concerns.

Additionally, Shakib has made himself unavailable for the ODI series against Afghanistan. The chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Faruque Ahmed, disclosed that Shakib feels he is not ready to handle the demands of international cricket at this time and has requested some time off
