iPhone 17 Air: Apple To Replace Plus Model? 5 Things To Know
After the launch of the iPhone X, the iPhone 12 series became one of the biggest overhauls as it brings 5G connectivity as well as a new mini model for those who like to keep their smartphone compact. However, soon with the launch of the iPhone 14 lineup, the mini model was ditched and replaced with an all-new and bigger “Plus” model. After three editions of it, Apple is reportedly working on a new iPhone Air. With the launch of the next iPhone 17 series, Apple is expected to bring the iPhone 17 Air (or Slim). As its name suggests, the iPhone 17 Slim is expected to be slimmer than the rest of the iPhone lineup.
Of course, design will be one of the key factors to differentiate it from the rest of the iPhone 17 models. However, there are several other improvements that the iPhone 17 Air is expected to bring to the table in terms of display, cameras as well as performance. Here’s everything that you can expect from the next iPhone 17 Air.
iPhone 17 Air: 5 Things To Know
- A New Slim Design
The iPhone 17 Slim, perhaps taking a leaf from the thinness of the MacBook Air, could be significantly thinner than current models. While ditching the idea of the bigger display size, the iPhone 17 Air’s screen size is anticipated to be 6.6-inch. In contrast to the iPhone 17 and Pro versions, the Slim model is tipped to have a single centre-placed camera on the back and a narrower Dynamic Island notch.
- Improved ProMotion Displays
For the first time, all iPhone 17 models are expected to come equipped with ProMotion displays, which means that they could be capable of a 1Hz–120Hz refresh rate. So far, all the non-Pro iPhone models, including the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, offer a 60Hz refresh rate display.
- Powerful A19 Chip
The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro are tipped to feature an enhanced 3-nanometre chip called A19, which will be more efficient. The same is the case with the expected iPhone 17 Air.
- Enhanced Camera System
As mentioned earlier, they may have a single 48MP camera setup at the back in contrast to the iPhone 17 which is expected to continue a 48MP main and 12MP ultra-wide camera. However, the front camera will be the biggest upgrade as rumours suggest that all iPhone 17 models may get a 24MP selfie camera instead of the current 12MP.
- Apple-designed 5G Modem
Apple may use its own 5G modem for the first time in the iPhone 17 Slim and leave Qualcomm’s chips behind. The iPhone 17 may have one model supporting Wi-Fi 7 as well, which increases network performance and connection stability.
Expected to launch in September 2025, the iPhone 17 Air may represent a major change in not only design but also performance. However, there is still almost a year in the launch of the iPhone 17 series, hence, you should take the information with a pinch of salt.
