Humpy loses, Divya settles for a draw in Round 6

International Master (IM) Stavroula Tsolakidou stunned Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy in round 6 of the FIDE Women Grand Prix in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on Tuesday.

This is Stavroula’s second consecutive win following her victory over GM Elisabeth Paehtz (2458) in round 5, and third in total, bringing her to four points. With her victory over Humpy, Stavroula, who hails from Greece, rose to the second spot with four points, the same as Zhongyi Tan.

This was Humpy’s second consecutive defeat. Earlier in the fifth round, she lost to Bibisara Assaubayeva, ranked fourth.

Divya Deshmukh, who won in the fifth round, drew her match against Salimova Nurgyul in round 6.

In the fifth round, Divya, playing her first Grand Prix event, defeated Munguntuul Batkhuyag, marking her first win in the tournament.

Following her defeat on Tuesday, Humpy is placed in the fifth spot with three points, while Divya, also collecting three points, is ranked sixth in the ten-member competition, led by Aleksandra Goryachkina of Russia with five points.
