Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, till date I have not heard that the Uttar Pradesh government has passed in the cabinet that the tenure of the DGP will be of 2 years and the state government will appoint him. Actually, Amit Shah wants to appoint his DGP and Yogi Adityanath wants to appoint his DGP, the fight is about this.

Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav had also cornered the government regarding the appointment of DGP. He had said that, I have heard that a system is being made to give a permanent post to a senior officer and extend his tenure by 2 years… The question is whether the people making the system themselves will stay for 2 years or not. Let us tell you that now the appointment of DGP in the state can be done only from the state government level. In this regard, the Cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday approved the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh (Chief of Police Force of Uttar Pradesh) Selection and Appointment Rules 2024. In this, a provision has been made to constitute a nomination committee under the chairmanship of a retired judge of the High Court. Whereas the minimum tenure of DGP has been fixed at two years.
