Chhath Puja is celebrated on the Shashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, which falls in the month of October-November. It lasts for four days and takes place in four main stages – Nahay-Khay, Kharna, Evening Arghya and Morning Arghya.
Four stages of Chhath Puja
Nahay-Khay Mahaparva On the first day of Chhath, Vrati (worshippers of Chhath puja) take a holy bath and consume satvik food. The fast begins with this Nahay-Khay. On this day, devotees take Prasad of gram dal, pumpkin vegetable and rice. This year Nahay-Khay is on 5th November i.e. Tuesday.
Kharna – The second festival of Chhath festival is of Kharna, in which the devotees observe Nirjala fast throughout the day and break the fast with special Prasad in the evening. Prasad mainly includes jaggery kheer, roti and banana. After the puja, the devotee starts the 36-hour waterless fast by eating Kharna Prasad. This year Kharna is on Wednesday 6th November.
Evening Arghya- On the third day, the devotees go to the banks of Ganga, pond or any river and offer Arghya to the setting sun in the evening. This is the most important moment of the fast, when devotees offer Arghya to the Sun God and seek his blessings and blessings. This year, evening Arghya will be offered to Lord Sun while setting on Thursday, 7th November.
Morning Arghya – Chhath Puja ends with offering Arghya to the rising sun in the morning on the fourth day. It happens at dawn, which is a symbol of faith and reverence. At this time, people from the family and society gather and pray to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya for the fulfillment of their wishes. This year, on the morning of Friday 8th November, Arghya will be offered to the rising Lord Sun.
