Sharda Sinha passes away: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the demise of folk singer Sharda Sinha, Bihar CM also expressed grief.

Popular folk singer Sharda Sinha, known for her soulful Chhath songs, passed away on Tuesday. She was battling blood cancer called multiple myeloma for many years. Padma Bhushan awardee Sharda Sinha was undergoing treatment at New Delhi's AIIMS hospital since she was admitted on October 27.

Her son Anshuman Sinha confirmed the news through his official Instagram account and shared a photo of his mother. Sinha wrote in Hindi, “Your prayers and love will always be with my mother. Chhathi Maiya has called him to herself. She is no longer with us in physical form.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the singer and paid tribute to her. “I am deeply saddened by the demise of famous folk singer Sharda Sinha. His Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs have been very popular for the last several decades. The echo of his melodious songs related to the great festival of faith, Chhath, will always remain. His demise is an irreparable loss to the music world. My thoughts are with his family and fans in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!” PM Modi posted on X.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also condoled the demise of the famous singer. Earlier, AIIMS confirmed that PM Modi is also in direct touch with her medical team and is personally overseeing her treatment. Sharda Sinha was a stalwart of the music industry since the 1970s and contributed immensely to Bhojpuri, Maithili and Hindi folk music. His work was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2018 and he was also honored with the National Film Award for his contribution to regional cinema.
