Digital Arrests: Home Ministry blocked 6 lakh mobile numbers and 709 applications…
New Delhi. Taking decisive action to deal with cases related to 'digital arrest', the Modi government has so far deactivated around 6 lakh mobile numbers. At the same time, 1,10,000 mobile handsets with specific IMEI numbers found involved in cyber fraud have been blacklisted.
Apart from mobile numbers, I4C under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has blocked 709 mobile applications of various types. Officials said that cyber security agencies have frozen about 3.25 lakh fake bank accounts involved in cyber fraud.
This action has been taken after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks during his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio program in which he had warned people against 'digital arrest' and cyber fraud.
The PM had said that those who do digital arrest first collect all your personal information, and then create an atmosphere of fear. He had said, “They will scare you so much on the phone that you will not be able to think anything. Then, they will give you a sense of urgency. “They create such psychological pressure that the person gets scared and becomes a victim of digital arrest.”
Officials dealing with cyber fraud and digital arrest cases said the I4C has also contacted state police, as the agency has been directed to monitor digital arrest cases on a case-to-case basis. Special Secretary Internal Security (SSIS) has been entrusted with the task of keeping an overview of such cases being handled by central and state agencies.
In his 115th episode of the monthly radio program 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi had advised citizens to beware of digital arrest. He also gave the mantra of 'Wait-Think-Take Action' to avoid becoming a victim of cyber fraud.
