Bournemouth caused a major upset in English Premier League football by defeating defending champions Manchester City 2-1. Bournemouth's first win against City in any tournament. Earlier, Bournemouth had played 21 matches against City and lost 19 of them and managed to draw only two matches.
On the other hand, City's tradition of being invincible was broken. This is their first defeat after 32 matches in the tournament. Antony Semenyo scored for Bournemouth in the ninth minute. The match between Manchester United and Chelsea in the league was a 1-1 draw. Fulham FC beat Brentford 2–1. Tottenham beat Aston Villa 4–1. The match between Wolves and Crystal Palace was a 2-2 draw. Liverpool beat Brighton 2–1 and Newcastle beat Arsenal 1–0.
