Singapore’s Changi Airport has won the title of “World’s Best Airport Design” in Forbes Travel Guide’s inaugural Luxury Air Travel Awards.

Opened in December 1981, Changi Airport is celebrated for its cutting-edge amenities, including duty-free shopping and luxurious accommodations.

Spanning over one million square meters across four terminals, equivalent to 156 football fields, the airport is lauded by travel experts for its distinctive design.

A highlight of Changi Airport is Jewel Changi, a nature-inspired entertainment and retail complex designed by Safdie Architects. The dome-shaped centerpiece features an array of retail, leisure, garden, and hotel amenities and is home to HSBC Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

The Singaporean government earlier announced it would begin construction of the fifth terminal at Changi Airport in the first half next year to boost capacity by 56%.

The Luxury Air Travel Awards were compiled through an exclusive survey of 5,000 industry insiders, including luxury travel advisors and frequent fliers, with Forbes Travel Guide experts validating the results.

Established in 1958 as the Mobil Travel Guide, Forbes Travel Guide is the oldest travel rating service in the U.S. and the originator of the five-star hotel rating system.
