Delhi High Court refused to allow Chhath Puja on the banks of Yamuna, said – people can fall ill by bathing in such poisonous water.

New Delhi. Delhi High Court has refused permission to perform Chhath Puja in Yamuna River. The High Court rejected the petition filed for performing Chhath Puja on the banks of the ghats of Yamuna River. A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the court challenging the government's decision to ban celebrations on the banks of the Yamuna River.

The court said that instead of worshiping on the banks of river Yamuna, worship can be done at other ghats and designated places. The court said the ban was probably imposed due to high levels of pollution in the Yamuna River and warned that bathing in such poisonous water could make people fall ill.

'Delhi government made arrangements for Chhath Puja at 1000 places'

Arrangements for tents, lights, cleanliness, security etc. have been made at more than one thousand ghats built by the Delhi Government. Besides, Maithali-Bhojpuri Academy has also organized cultural programs at many ghats so that the devotees can celebrate the great festival of faith, Chhath, with happiness, peace and joy.
