This Star wicketkeeper batter all set to lead Australia in the 3rd ODI and T 20

Josh Inglis, the ace wicketkeeper-batter, has been appointed the captain of the Australian national team to play Pakistan in a three-match T20I series. On Wednesday, November 6, he was appointed for the first time in his career. The 29-year-old has played 26 matches in the shortest format and scored 679 runs. He was asked to take charge while the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa were also in contention. Australia will take on Pakistan in three T20 Internationals on 14, 16, and 18 November in Brisbane, Sydney and Hobart respectively.

Last month, Australia had announced the squad for the T20I series against Pakistan without the name of a captain. It was expected that Maxwell, the most experienced player for Australia in T20Is would take the mantle, but given that Inglis has scored two T20I hundreds in the last year, he was preferred.

Inglis will lead the side in the T20 series but will also be a stand-in captain when the final match ODIs series against Pakistan takes place on November 10 at the Perth Stadium.

This will mean that Test captain Pat Cummins and other red-ball players of Australia including Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith do not have to play the last match of the ongoing ODI series.

Josh Philli pe, wicketkeeper-batter, Spencer Johnson, Lance Morris, and Xavier Bartlett have all been included in Australia’s squad which will play the third T20I match.

“Josh is a key member of the ODI and T20I squads and a very well-regarded person in cricket circles,” said selection chair George Bailey on Wednesday.

“Australia A level in the past has been led by him and hence, will add tactical acumen and a favorable attitude towards the position. Josh will get assistance from the likes of Matt Short and Adam Zampa as well as senior players like Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.”
