“Don’t appoint Bumrah as captain for Test series against Australia”: Finch gives thumbs down to Gavaskar’s suggestion to replace Rohit

Former Australia captain Aaron Finch is not in favour of Jasprit Bumrah getting captaincy for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit Sharma will miss the opening Test due to personal reasons and Bumrah is likely to take his place as he is the designated vice-captain.

Gavaskar mentioned that it would be better to given the captain’s armband to speedster for five Tests and let Rohit play as a specialist batter when he returns. “Replacing a captain is never easy and a vice-captain is always under pressure when such a situation arrives. Team India is most important.

“Let Jasprit Bumrah lead India against Australia and when Rohit returns, play him as a batter,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Sports Tak.

Finch refused to buy his suggestion. “I disagree with Sunny. Rohit Sharma is the captain of India. If your wife is going to have a baby, you can stay at home and take all the time that you need as it is a beautiful moment,” Aaron Finch said.

Rohit Sharma recently failed as a captain in a three-Test series against New Zealand. The home team lost by a margin of 0-3, their first-ever series whitewash involving three contests.

He scored 91 runs in six innings, including one fifty. The series against the Pat Cummins-led team could be his last if he fails to give batter results.
