*Raipur / In Chhattisgarh, HIV affected, blind and leg handicapped senior citizens of 80 years of age or above are being given free travel facility in passenger buses. Under the good governance of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, all such passengers are being given 100 percent discount in the fixed fare while traveling in the bus. Along with this, with the aim of connecting with the main stream of the society, the facility of giving 50 percent concession in fare for traveling in passenger bus to the person holding the certificate of “person affected by Naxalism” has also been started, which is not available in Maoist areas like Bastar. It is proving effective in arranging transportation facilities in the affected areas.
Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, with a view to provide better means of transport and transportation to the general public, the state government is operating private passenger vehicles ranging from ordinary class to air-conditioned sleeper class in various routes of the state, which provide convenience to the general public and passengers. It works daily to reach the designated destination. Keeping in mind the festive season, it is possible that there will be more movement by the general public to reach their destination, as a result of which the vehicle operators may illegally extort higher fares from the passengers. In view of this fact, the transport officers of the state have been instructed to take immediate cognizance of the complaints of excess fare collection and take legal action against such passenger vehicles as per rules.
Keeping in mind the convenience of the general public, transport officials have given instructions to paste fare lists in passenger buses to inform the passengers about the fare rate fixed for their destination. In compliance with the instructions, the departmental staff, while checking the passenger vehicles, found the vehicles charging more fare than the prescribed amount and were found to be operating without pasting the fare rate list. A total of Rs 4,47,800/- was levied on 349 passenger vehicles. . The fee has been collected.
The Transport Department has appealed to the general public that those classes who have been given concessions in passenger fares by the State Government, if fare concessions are not given by the bus conductors or travelers during the journey, or there is any kind of indecent misbehavior. Or if illegal fare is collected, then a complaint should be made to the transport officer of the concerned district, even if there is any evidence or fact. The department has instructed the transport officer and enforcement staff to take such complaints seriously and take continuous checking action in this direction.
