Afghanistan teen Allah Ghazanfar creates HISTORY, equals BIG record set by Waqar Younis and Rashid Khan
Allah Ghazanfar, 18-year-old spinner from Afghanistan, claimed six wickets in his side’s 92-run win over Bangladesh in the first ODI in Sharjah.
Afghanistan continued their sparkling form in ODI cricket as they thrashed Bangladesh by 92 runs in the historic 300th match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. The star of the Afghanistan win was their 18-year-old spin bowler Allah Ghazanfar, who picked up career-best 6/26 as Bangladesh were routed for 143 chasing 236 to win.
Ghazanfar created history in ODI cricket, becoming only the third bowler to claim a six-wicket haul in 50-overs cricket before turning 19. Only Pakistan legend Waqar Younis and Ghazanfar’s Afghan teammate Rashid Khan have achieved this feat.
The young off-spinner’s brilliant spell triggered a sensational Bangladesh collapse as Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side lost their last 8 wickets for 23 runs after being 120 for 2 at one stage. Skipper Shanto top-scored with 47 off 68 balls for Bangladesh.

Ghazanfar now has 10 wickets in his first six ODI matches at an amazing average of 15.4. After making his debut against Ireland, Ghazanfar troubled all South African batters in Afghanistan’s historic ODI series win.
The 18-year-old was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) title-winning squad in the IPL 2024 after coming in as an injury replacement for Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman. However, he did not play a single game this year.
Earlier, former captain Mohammad Nabi’s 84 off 79 balls with three sixes and 4 fours helped Afghanistan recover from 71 for 5 in 20 overs to post a competitive 235 after batting first. Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi also scored 52 off 92 balls with a couple of boundaries.
For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman picked up 4 wickets each. “He (Allah Ghazanfar) is a special talent. He is a good kid with good future for Afghanistan. I trust him and that is why he is in the team and playing. First few overs also he bowled well. After the no ball, I asked him what he was doing and asked him to not do it again,” Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi said about Ghazanfar.
“He (Mohammad Nabi) was really positive. Our discussion was that if we scored 220, it would be a good enough score. 236 was a good target here and the bowlers then did their job,” Shahidi added.
