Daren Sammy calls Alzarri Joseph’s behaviour ‘unacceptable’ during 3rd England ODI
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has labelled Alzarri Joseph’s behaviour during the 3rd ODI against England as unacceptable after the pacer left the field following a heated exchange with skipper Shai Hope.
During the 4th over of the England innings, Joseph looked unhappy with the slip placing and thus, gestured towards Hope to change it. Off the fourth ball, Joseph removed England batter Jordan Cox caught behind, but did not celebrate with his team, instead immediately returning to his mark.
At the end of the over, Joseph left the field unannounced which left the West Indies with no other choice but to play with 10 fielders in the next over.
“Behaviour like that is unacceptable on my cricket field. We will be friends, but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable. We will definitely have a chat about that,” Sammy said after the game.
Joseph returned to the pitch for the beginning of the sixth over, but did not resume bowling until the 12th. He bowled two more overs, before leaving the field again after two misfields off his bowling saw England gain two runs through overthrows.
Joseph finished the match with figures of 2/45 from his 10 overs after dismissing Cox and Dan Mousley.
West Indies won the ODI series over England by 2-1. The Windies ended up winning the first match of the series on DLS method before England levelled the series in the second. Tons from Brandon King and Keacy Carty helped the Windies win the third and final match by 8 wickets. The 5-match T20I series between the 2 sides is set to begin from November 9.
