What is saree cancer?
Regarding this, doctors say that saree cancer does not mean that wearing a saree will cause cancer, rather it is a type of skin cancer, which occurs due to tying the petticoat too tightly. When you keep the nada tied in one position for a long time, it causes irritation at the place where the saree is tied and if this irritation happens again and again and again, it causes changes in the skin. These changes can later turn into some types of ulcers, which can later lead to cancer.
Can saree cause cancer?
The doctor further explained that even though it is a cause of cancer, such cases are generally quite rare and less common. This happens when tight-fitting clothes, especially around the waist, are worn repeatedly. This type of cancer is not limited to just saree, apart from tightly worn saree, petticoat, dhoti and even tight jeans can also increase this risk on the waist.
Overall it can be said that saree does not directly cause cancer. This can happen due to wearing any tight thing around the waist. Therefore the term 'sari cancer' can be misleading.
