How many almonds should you eat daily to control bad cholesterol?

Eating soaked almonds everyday is a morning ritual in several households. Badam is best known to be extremely beneficial for brain health- memory, cognitive function and more. This nutty delight is loaded with nutrients. It is a good source of protein, fibre, vitamin E, magnesium and potassium. This versatile dry fruit can be consumed raw as well as garnished in sweets and shakes.

While consuming handful of almonds is good for health, how many nuts are too many nuts? People boast about the myriad of benefits of almonds, however, one must one overdose on it.

How Many Almonds Should You Eat in a Day?

Eating too many almonds in a day can cause digestive issues, weight gain and even  lead to formation of kidney stones due to its oxalate content.

During an event on almonds, Ritika Samaddar, the Regional Head-Dietetics, Max Healthcare addressed this dilemma. She said, that for adults, eating 20-25 almonds a day is a healthy intake of nuts. For children, it limit of around 10 is a decent approach. Ritika explained that almonds are super healthy but one must also keep a check on their consumption.

We also asked the expert if there is a specific time to consume almonds, she explained that while snacking in between meals or any time of the day is fine, eating it early morning or in the evening can be a good time as well. Starting the day on a healthy note is important.

Almond Benefits

They are packed with monounsaturated fats or what we call good fats, which lower low density lipoprotein (LDL) or bad cholesterol and elevate levels of high density lipoprotein or (HDL) or good cholesterol. The cholesterol balance in the body can prevent plaque formation and keep blood vessels in our vascular systems clean. The nuts reduce oxidative stress and are anti-inflammatory.

Therefore, almonds are good for the heart and help in cholesterol control. Regular consumption can help reduce LDL and lower risk of heart attack.
