Ton Duc Thang University saw the most significant decline, dropping 61 places compared to last year. In contrast, Van Lang University and the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City recorded the largest gains, each rising by over 200 positions.

The QS Asia rankings, featuring 984 universities from 29 countries and territories, place the most weight on academic reputation at 30%, followed by citations (20%). Other factors include institutional reputation, faculty/student ratio, internationalization, international research networks, employability, and sustainability, each contributing around 5-15%.

The top 10 universities include four from mainland China, three from Hong Kong, two from Singapore, and one from South Korea.

The top four remain unchanged from last year: Peking University, University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, and Nanyang Technological University.

The remaining universities in the top 10 are Fudan University, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Yonsei University, and City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK).

QS is one of the three major university ranking organizations, alongside Times Higher Education (THE) and the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

Currently, ARWU’s list does not include any Vietnamese universities.

In May, THE’s 2024 Asia rankings featured six Vietnamese universities. Ton Duc Thang University ranked 193rd, while Duy Tan University was in the 201-300 range. Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, stood in the 501-600 and 601+ ranges, respectively, each dropping around 100-200 places from previous rankings.
