Latest News :- Firecrackers have been banned on Diwali from 2020 as advised by the Supreme Court to curb the increase in air pollution in Delhi. This year also the Delhi government has banned bursting of firecrackers on Diwali. But despite the ban, firecrackers were burst in Delhi. Due to this, air pollution has reached dangerous levels. The Supreme Court took the initiative to register a case in this regard. The matter came up for hearing yesterday before Justices Abhay Oka and Augustine George. Then the judges said.
The Delhi government and Delhi Police have a week's time to file a detailed reply as to why the ban on firecrackers was not properly implemented in Delhi on the festival day of Diwali. The answer should also mention what steps will be taken to properly implement the ban on firecrackers on the next Diwali. Where was agricultural waste burnt in Punjab and Haryana in the last 10 days? Both the state governments should tell about its consequences. Thus the judges ordered.
