The historic Patwa Haveli present in Jaisalmer is one of the oldest structures of Rajasthan. Patwa Ki Haveli is a group of five mansions that were built by Patwa, a wealthy merchant of Jaisalmer. This businessman had five sons and a mansion was built for each of them. It is believed that it took the architects around thirty years just to design this mansion and another thirty years to build it, that is, it took more than 60 years to build these five mansions. The first mansion was built in the year 1805 by Guman Chand Patwa, a famous jewelery and brooches merchant of India, due to which this mansion is also known as Kothari ki Patwa Haveli.

Talking about the architecture of this mansion, the most special thing here is that very beautiful and amazing glass work has been done on the walls of this mansion. The walls are beautifully decorated with paintings and exquisite carvings of trees, plants, nature, animals and historical events. There are more than 60 balconies in the Haveli of Patvas, on the pillars of which different types of captivating paintings have been done. Every door of this mansion is filled with finely carved designs, which is no less than a wonderful example of architecture. Along with this, intricate carvings and paintings have been done with gold, silver and brocade on every window, arch, balustrade and entrance gate of this mansion. However, due to the indifference of time, aggressive climate and encroachment, there have been some stains on its grandeur.
