Is your phone really waterproof? Understand useful information from IP Rating
Tech News Desk,Nowadays, whenever we go to buy a new phone in the market or online, its ads often claim that the device is waterproof or dustproof, but are phones really completely safe? So let us tell you that to understand this, it is very important to pay attention to IP rating. IP rating means Ingress Protection i.e. protection of your phone from external things like dust and water. Let us first know what is IP rating and how does it work?
First digit: Represents protection against dust whose maximum level is 6, which means that the device is completely dustproof.
Second digit: Represents protection against water whose maximum level has reached 9, which means that the device can remain safe in water for a long time. Recently, this IP rating is seen in OnePlus 13 launched in China, which is not even in the new 16 series of iPhone.
So is your phone really waterproof?
IP rating does not mean that you can keep the phone immersed in water for a long time. It only protects under normal conditions, such as light rain, splashes, or accidentally falling into water. Let us understand this with an example…
IP69 Rating: It is considered to have the highest protection against water and dust, but it is not safe to keep it in water for a long time.
IP68 Rating: This is also considered to be the highest protection rating against water and dust, but it is not safe to keep it in water for a long time.
IP67 rating: Can protect the phone in 1 meter deep water for 30 minutes.
IPX4 Rating: It only protects against splashes of water, but will not protect against submersion.
Why is IP rating important?
IP rating gives you assurance about how safe your phone will be in water. That is, from this you can understand how safe your phone is in reality from dust and water. Therefore, if your phone comes with IP68 or IP67 rating, then you can consider it to be safe from water or dust under normal conditions. But considering it “waterproof”, keeping it in water for a long time can be harmful.
