West Indies fast-bowling talent Alzarri Joseph is set to be out of action for two matches on Thursday after storming off from the field in the series-clinching ODI match against England.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) stated that Joseph had been punished for “behaviour that does not meet the professionalism standards of CWI.”
In one such instance, Joseph segregated himself from the pitch on Wednesday during the match being played at Kensington Oval Barbados, after successfully bowling Jordan Cox out in the fourth over, apparently in frustration with the field set by West Indies captain Shai Hope.
This momentarily left the West Indies with only ten players, before Joseph who had walked off returned for the sixth over.
“Alzarri’s actions did not reflect the core values of Cricket West Indies as an organization,” said CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe in a statement.
“This kind of behavior cannot be tolerated and we have acted quickly and decisively to deal with the matter.”
Joseph made a statement in the same release that admits his lapse of temper saying that “my passion got the best of me.”
“I have apologized to captain Shai Hope and to the rest of the team and management, personally myself,” said Joseph, 27.
“To the West Indies supporters, I also cannot express how sorry I am. I appreciate that even for a moment, being weak could cause a chain of events which will be regrettable, and for that I am sorry.”
