Husband gave divorce to wife on WhatsApp, did not get justice then appealed to the President for euthanasia

A Muslim woman living in Santrampur town of Mahisagar district of Gujarat has sought permission from the President for euthanasia if she does not get justice. This woman was married to Javed Mustaq Kothari, resident of Santrampur, nine years ago. This woman was living with her husband and his family after marriage, but due to not having children, she was being tortured mentally and physically.

The woman says that she has no support and her father's financial condition is also not good, hence she has been suffering the atrocities of her husband and in-laws for the last nine years. Despite all this, one day her husband divorced her by sending her a message on WhatsApp. In the hope of justice, the woman lodged a complaint at Lunawada Mahila Police Station, but the police immediately granted bail to the accused Javed Mustaq.

The victim says that this is a violation of the Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Act 2019, in which there is no provision for immediate bail in such a situation. After not getting justice, the woman has given a written application to the President, Home Department, Chief Minister of the state and District Superintendent of Police, seeking permission for euthanasia. When Mahisagar District Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Vasava was talked about on the matter, he admitted that the police had made a mistake and an investigation has been ordered.
