Nitish government will run metro in Patna before elections, train will be purchased for 33 crores
Metro train will run in Patna before the assembly elections 2025 in Bihar. The Nitish government of the state has decided to run the metro train at its own expense before the elections next year. For this, an amount of Rs 115 crore has also been approved from the cabinet. From this fund the government will purchase a train at a cost of Rs 33 crore.
The other amount will be used for laying tracks, installing lifts and escalators. There is a plan to run metro trains next year by laying tracks on the primary corridor of Patna Metro between ISBT Bairia and Malahi Pakdi. Later, after getting loan from Jaica, this amount will be returned to the state government.

The state cabinet approved it in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday. After the approval of the amount, the hope of starting metro operations on the primary corridor next year has increased. The state government is looking to start metro operations in a distance of 6.5 kilometers between Bairiya and Malahi Pakdi in Patna by August 15 next year. This was hampered due to non-availability of loan from Jaika.
Jaika loan will be available on appointment of General Consultant
According to the agreement between the state government and JICA, the work of laying tracks, purchasing trains and lift-escalators is to be done with the loan of JICA. Zaika loan will be available only when the General Consultant is appointed. After consultant appointment, the tender process will take time.
In such a situation, metro operation was not possible before the assembly elections due to loan. That is why the state government has decided that under Rule 131 (E) of Bihar Finance Rules, Rs 115.10 crore should be given for metro operation so that it can be started by August next year.
