New Delhi: The latest reports suggest that Singh is Kinng‘s sequel is on the cards but without Akshay Kumar. The makers are reportedly considering Ranveer Singh or Diljit Dosanjh for the lead role, however, there is a major hiccup for the makers.

For the unversed, Singh is Kinngwas the blockbuster hit and third-highest-grossing movie of 2008. The film collected Rs 68.5 crores at the box office. Let’s delve into more details!

Singh is Kinng sans Akshay Kumar

According to the Pinkvilla report, Singh is Kinng 2 can’t be made without nod from Akshay Kumar as he owns 50% of the rights to the movie. Hence, the film’s sequel cannot be planned without Akshay Kumar’s approval. A source informed the publication that the actor owns 50% of the IP for Singh is Kinngwhich means that either Akshay will be the lead star in the film or the makers need NOC to roll the film without his involvement.

The insider even added that Akshay and his team are in “no mood” to give away the rights of Singh is Kinng and will make part two when they have a “banging script”. So, does that mean Singh is Kinng 2 is not happening? It seems so as Akshay Kumar’s legal team responded to Shailendra’s comments and called his claims “entirely falls”.

The legal team of Akshay Kumar issued a statement clarifying that “Shailendra Singh or any other person has no right to produce any prequels or sequels or franchise to the film”.
