Two cops injured in violent clashes in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau; police vehicle vandalised
Always: A violent clash broke out in Madhuvan Mod Roadways Market of Ghosi Kotwali area, Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, following a minor bike collision on Friday night.
The incident quickly escalated from a scuffle to a knife attack, leaving two people seriously injured. The situation worsened when people from both sides of the altercation gathered at the spot, leading to stone pelting and violent clashes. Several vehicles were damaged during the violence.
Police vehicle vandalised
The police were alerted about the situation, and CO Ghosi, along with the station in-charge, reached the spot to control the situation. However, as the police arrived, the rioters began throwing stones at them, injuring both the CO and the station in-charge.
The mob also damaged police vehicles. To restore order, district authorities dispatched additional police forces from nearby stations.
SDM reaches spot
Despite the efforts of SDM Abhishek Goswami, who arrived at the spot and appealed to the crowd for peace, the rioters refused to calm down. The SDM, speaking through a microphone, offered to hold talks, but the situation escalated further when the crowd blocked Gorakhpur-Varanasi National Highway.
The authorities are in the process of negotiating with the rioters to bring the situation under control. Meanwhile, the two injured persons have been referred to Varanasi Trauma Center for treatment. The police are continuing their efforts to restore peace in the area.
