Sri Lankan President Dissanayake's chair remains, NPP gets majority in parliamentary elections
Colombo: Kumara Dissanayake's presidential chair will now remain in Sri Lanka. Dissanayake's NPP party got a lot in the parliamentary elections held on Thursday in the country. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's National People's Power (NPP) party won the majority in Parliament, according to official results announced by the Election Commission of Sri Lanka.
According to data released by the website of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka, the NPP, which contested the elections under the Malimawa or Compass symbol, has secured 113 seats in the 225-member Parliament. The NPP received a total of 68 lakh votes or 61 percent, giving it an edge over its rivals. The party is on the way to get two-third majority.
