Jhansi fire incident: PM Modi will give ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased, Yogi Adityanath announced this amount
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the kin of each deceased in the fire incident at Jhansi Medical College in Uttar Pradesh.

Prime Minister Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the fire incident at Lakshmibai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, calling it “heartbreaking” and expressed condolences to the bereaved families of ten children who lost their lives in the incident.
The Prime Minister also assured that relief and rescue operations are continuing under the supervision of the Uttar Pradesh government.
PM Modi posted on his official handle on Twitter, “The incident of fire in Jhansi Medical College, Uttar Pradesh is heart-wrenching. My deepest condolences to those who lost their innocent children in this incident. I pray to God. I wish them the strength to bear this immense loss. The local administration is making every possible effort for relief and rescue under the supervision of the state government.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the parents of newborn babies who died in the fire incident at Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College Hospital in Jhansi.
The UP government has also announced to give Rs 50,000 each to the families of the injured from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
CM Yogi Adityanath has also directed Jhansi Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to submit a report regarding the incident within 12 hours.
10 newborns lost their lives in the fire, which is believed to have been caused by a short circuit in the oxygen concentrator and spread rapidly due to the highly oxygenated environment in the NICU.
Following a fire in the NICU of a medical college, parents and relatives of newborns are desperate for answers in the search for their missing babies and are demanding accountability.
The fire that broke out late on Friday night engulfed the NICU, where more than 50 newborns were being treated. The tragic event has left bereaved families scrambling for information, many of whom are still unsure about the fate of their babies.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday said that if necessary, DNA test would be conducted to identify three out of ten newborns. Seven of the dead have been identified, while several other infants have sustained burn injuries in the incident.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the state government, saying it was a case of 'negligence' of medical management and administration. Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday expressed grief over the death of newborn babies at Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College Hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi and demanded strict legal action against the culprits.
Kharge said in a post on X that the news of the death of innocent children in the accident at the Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh is very sad.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also expressed grief over the death of newborn babies. He posted on X, 'Shocking news has come from Maharani Laxmibai Medical College, Jhansi, where ten children have died in a fire in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Words of condolences and consolation are useless in this time of great tragedy. We stand with the family and parents in this difficult situation.
