Lokayukta raids in Karnataka, Rs 23 crore seized from 8 government officials

Latest News :- Unaccounted cash, gold jewelery and property documents worth Rs 22.86 crore were seized during raids by Lokayukta police at the houses of eight government officials in Karnataka. Lokayukta Police received a complaint that some government officials in government service in the state of Karnataka are involved in corruption. Based on this, the Lokayukta police conducted searches at 37 places including the houses of 8 government officials, houses of their relatives and offices of their close relatives in Bengaluru, Mangalore, Mysore, Belagavi, Ramanagara, Hassan, Haveri and other places. More than 200 policemen were involved in the raid that lasted from 7 am to 6 pm.
A statement issued by the Lokayukta police said, “Cash, gold, diamonds, jewelery and property documents worth Rs 4.26 crore were seized from the house of Prakash, divisional mechanical engineer of Karnataka State Transport Corporation in Ramnanagar. Property worth Rs 2.12 crore was seized from the house of Belagavi Public Works Assistant Executive Engineer Taleshwar.
The search was conducted at the residence of Vitthal Shivappa, administrative officer of Nibbani village in Belagavi. When Vittal Shivappa, who was outside at that time, was caught with Rs 1.1 crore in cash. Property worth Rs 2.7 crore was seized during a raid at the house of Mysore Public Works Chief Engineer Arjun. Unaccounted cash, gold, diamond jewelery and property documents totaling Rs 22.86 crore were seized from the houses and offices of 8 officials. “Subsequently, a case has been registered against 8 people under section of the Anti-Bribery Act and investigation is ongoing,” it said.
