PM Modi met Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, discussed these issues

Abuja: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday. PM Modi was given a formal welcome and guard of honor at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Abuja, Nigeria. The two leaders discussed with each other ways to promote partnership between the two countries in a number of areas, including trade, investment and digital public infrastructure.

Modi reached Nigeria's capital Abuja early today. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria after 17 years. The Prime Minister was given a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace, following which he held a meeting with Tinubu.

After the delegation level talks, several agreements are likely to be signed between the two sides. Modi is in Nigeria as part of a three-nation tour. He will go to Brazil from Abuja to attend the G-20 summit. Their final destination will be Guyana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that as was said just now. This is the visit of an Indian Prime Minister after 17 years. It is a matter of great pleasure for me that I got the opportunity to visit Nigeria at the beginning of my third term. P Narendra Modi said that I am confident that our talks today will add a new chapter to our relations. Together we will continue to highlight the priorities of the Global South at the global level and our joint efforts will bring us success.

The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited in 2007

India-Nigeria relations were elevated to the status of strategic partnership during the visit of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Nigeria in October 2007. Nigeria has been a close partner of India for more than six decades. India established its diplomatic corps in Lagos in November 1958, two years before Nigeria became independent in 1960.
