New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (November 17, 2024) took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to praise The Sabarmati Report. The 74-year-old leader said that a fake narrative can only persist for a limited period and that facts eventually emerge.
PM Modi added that it is encouraging to see the truth coming to light, especially in a way that allows common people to understand it. It is to be noted that PM Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat during the 2002 Godhra train-burning incident.

What is The Sabarmati Report?
The political drama is a film based on the Godhra train-burning incident involving the Sabarmati Express. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the movie was released in cinemas on November 15, 2024, and has received mixed reviews from critics.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Sabarmati Report has earned Rs 3.35 crore within two days of its release. The flick stars Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, Riddhi Dogra, Sundip Ved, Digvijay Purohit, Hella Stichlmair, Nazneen Patni and Abhishant Rana in pivotal roles.
Godhra train burning incident
The tragedy occurred on February 27, 2002, when the Sabarmati Express, carrying a large number of pilgrims returning from Ayodhya, was set on fire. While Gujarat Police accused a Muslim mob of orchestrating the attack, other theories suggested it might have been an accident.
The incident claimed more than 50 lives and sparked communal riots in Gujarat. An inquiry panel led by former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav supported the accident theory, while courts convicted several individuals accused of setting the train on fire, aligning with the state police’s findings.
