One dead in jiribam in firing by security forces as Meitei and Kuki resort to violence in Manipur

Imphal. Violence continues in Manipur. On Sunday night, an angry mob attacked the offices of BJP and Congress in Babupura in Jiribam district of Manipur. To stop the crowd from creating disturbance, the security forces had to open fire. A 20 year old youth died in this. There is news of another youth being injured due to gunshot. Information has been received that the incident took place at a distance of half a kilometer from Jiribam police station. At the same time, to stop the violence in Manipur, the Army and Central forces have set up more than 100 checkpoints in the valley and hilly areas. These checkpoints have been installed so that the Meitei people living in the valley cannot move towards the hilly areas, nor can the people of the Kuki community living in the hilly areas come towards the valley. At the same time, the responsibility of investigating three incidents of violence has been given to NIA in recent times. People lost their lives in these incidents and the situation worsened.

At the same time, in Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting on Sunday to stop the violence in Manipur. Amit Shah is also going to hold a big meeting on the issue of Manipur on Monday. Already on the instructions of Amit Shah, CRPF DG Anish Dayal has reached Manipur. He will work to stop violence in Manipur by coordinating CRPF soldiers. In Manipur, on November 11, Kuki militants attacked the CRPF camp in Jiribam. 11 Kuki terrorists were killed in CRPF retaliatory action. After which the remaining militants fled, but kidnapped 3 women and 3 children of Meitei community from a nearby refugee camp. The bodies of these women and children were found from Jirimukh and Barak rivers on Friday and Saturday. After which the orgy of violence started once again.

BJP is in power in Manipur and its ally NPP has withdrawn its support after the new wave of violence started. The NPP is headed by Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma. However, there is no danger of the BJP government falling even after NPP withdraws its support. Violence started in Manipur in May 2023, when the High Court directed the state government to consider giving tribal status and reservation to the Meitei community. This was opposed by the Kuki community. At the same time, the Meitei community claims that they were given tribal status during the British rule. Meitei community follows Hindu religion. Whereas, most of the Kuki community are followers of Christianity.
