Bengaluru Traffic Cops Register 17,000 Cases In 7 Days Against Ecommerce Delivery Partners
Bengaluru traffic police have intensified efforts to curb traffic violations among e-commerce and food delivery agents, registering a staggering 17,218 cases in a single week. The violations include wrong-side driving, helmetless riding, and jumping signals. On Friday alone, 4,293 cases were booked, resulting in fines amounting to ₹22.13 lakh.
The crackdown follows an awareness campaign aimed at promoting traffic discipline among delivery executives. A senior police officer clarified, “Our aim is not to impose fines but to enforce road safety norms.”
Key Findings from the Drive:
- Major Violations: 2,318 cases for helmetless riding, 472 for entering no-entry zones387 for wrong-way driving, and 258 for jumping signals.
- Root Cause: Unrealistic deadlines set by e-commerce platforms force delivery agents to speed or break rules, risking their safety and that of others.
- Industry Meetings: The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has engaged with e-commerce and food delivery companies to address these issues and encourage better compliance.
Delivery agents face mounting pressure to meet tight delivery timelines, as missing deadlines often results in financial penalties, such as paying for free food offered to customers. Representatives from the food delivery partners’ union have called for companies to set realistic delivery targets that account for the city’s traffic conditions.
The drive underscores the need for collaboration between traffic authorities, e-commerce platforms, and delivery agents to ensure road safety while maintaining service efficiency.
