Who is Omkar Salvi? RCB’s new bowling coach hired with aim to win IPL title

New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have roped in renowned coach Omkar Salvi as the fast bowling coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. According to a report in Indian Express, RCB has added Salvi to their coaching staff in a bid to end their IPL title drought.

Salvi is currently serving Mumbai’s senior men’s team in domestic cricket.

Salvi is regarded as one of the best coaches in the Indian domestic circuit and has been instrumental in the Mumbai state team’s successful run. He has been hired as part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s plans to win their maiden title in the IPL.

Salvi has previously worked as an assistant coach of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). It was his only stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been a long servant of the Mumbai state team and his current contract as the head coach will end in March 2025.

A source close to RCB told Indian Express about Salvi’s appointment. An official announcement is expected soon.

Who is Omkar Salvi?

Omkar is the brother of former India fast bowler Avishkar Salvi. Under his guidance, the Mumbai team won the Ranji Trophy last season. He is a coach, many believe, who likes to stay behind the scenes. Omkar’s only List-A appearance came in 2005 when he played for Railways against Madhya Pradesh.

After his stint ended with KKR, he was named as the Mumbai state team coach, who won the Ranji title under his leadership last year.

Earlier, this year RCB had roped in Dinesh Karthik as their batting coach and mentor for the 2025 season. Karthik and Salvi have worked together for KKR and the RCB are banking on a new backroom staff to power them to their maiden IPL title.

Meanwhile, RCB will look to make some smart additions to their squad at the IPL mega-auction scheduled to be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.
