Justice Krishnakumar can be the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, recommendation to appoint him

New Delhi: These days, discussions are going on for the post of Chief Justice of the High Court in Manipur, where a big update has come out regarding the appointment as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. In this, the Supreme Court Collegium has appointed the currently appointed judge of the Madras High Court as the Chief Justice of Manipur. The name of serving Justice D Krishnakumar has been recommended. After the recommendation comes, this name will now be considered.

The collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and comprising Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant took this decision in its meeting held on Monday.

Vacant post will be filled soon

Here the Collegium of the Supreme Court informed that as a result of the retirement of Justice Siddharth Mridul on November 21, 2024, the post of Chief Justice of Manipur High Court will be vacant, hence it is necessary to make this appointment. Further it said, “Justice D Krishnakumar, presently serving as Judge of the Madras High Court, is proposed to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court with effect from the date when the present Chief Justice retires.” Will step down.”

“Justice D. Krishnakumar was appointed as a judge of the Madras High Court on April 7, 2016, and will retire on May 21, 2025,” the collegium said.

Who is Justice Krishnakumar?

Here the information about Justice Krishnakumar states that, “He (Justice Krishnakumar) is the senior most judge of his native High Court and belongs to a backward community.” “Further, before being elevated as a High Court judge, he practiced civil, constitutional and service matters in the High Court for a long time and has expertise in constitutional law.”

The Collegium said Justice Krishnakumar is a competent judge adept at sound legal matters and is of utmost integrity and honesty.

Here the discussions are intense regarding the name of Justice D. Krishnakumar. Here it said, “While recommending the name of Justice D. Krishnakumar, the Collegium has also taken into account the fact that at present among the Chief Justices of High Courts there is only one Chief Justice from the Madras High Court. “Considering all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the opinion that Justice D. Krishnakumar is suitable in all respects for appointment as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court,” it said.

“Therefore, the Collegium recommends that Justice D Krishnakumar be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court following the retirement of Justice Siddharth Mridul on November 21, 2024,” the collegium said.
