Nayanthara and Dhanush in legal battle – What’s issue
According to Indian media reports, the dispute began when a clip from Dhanush’s film Raanjha Raanjha was included in the trailer for Nayanthara’s documentary film, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.
Upon seeing a scene from his film in the documentary, Dhanush sent a legal notice demanding compensation of ₹10 crore under copyright laws.
In response, Nayanthara released a letter on social media, stating that she had waited for two years for permission from Dhanush, but even after the documentary had been approved, she was denied permission. She further mentioned that, despite this, she had decided to remove the clip from the film, but Dhanush’s action was unnecessary and “a very petty move.”
In her letter, Nayanthara also expressed her surprise at Dhanush’s objection to a mere three-second clip, especially when the same clip had been available on social media for a long time. She criticized his behavior, stating that difficult times reveal a person’s true character and that Dhanush was not the same person he appeared to be in front of his fans.
The actress raised questions about whether a producer truly controls the life of everyone on set and whether defying their orders could lead to legal action.
Nayanthara also pointed out that nearly 10 years had passed since the release of Raanjha Raanjha, but Dhanush’s behavior had been unforgettable for her. She made it clear that this matter had been a bitter experience for her, and she wished to expose Dhanush’s behavior to the fans and the industry.
After Nayanthara’s letter, the disagreement escalated, with actor Allu Arjun’s lawyer issuing a 24-hour ultimatum to the actress.
Dhanush’s lawyer has issued a legal notice demanding that Nayanthara and Netflix India remove any content from the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale that violates the copyright of the film Nanum Rowdy Dhan. The notice specifically refers to backstage footage from Nanum Rowdy Dhan, which is owned by Dhanush.
The lawyer dismissed Nayanthara’s claim that the footage was filmed without authorization, calling it “baseless.” The notice further stated that if the footage was not removed within 24 hours, Dhanush would take legal action, including demanding ₹10 crore in damages.
As of now, neither Nayanthara nor Netflix India has responded to the notice.
