This lead hero’s brother jumped in to settle all the financial issues of the film. After two years of making, it finally released in 2007.
Released in 2007, the film we will be discussing about emerged as a huge success at the box office and went on to run in theatres for over a year. It is none other than superhit film Paruthiveeran featuring Karthi in the lead role. It was a dream debut for Karthi, as the film had a theatrical run of over 300 days.
Did you know Karthi is a younger brother of Tamil superstar Suriya? Suriya was also indirectly involved in the making of Paruthiveeran. After being ready, the film faced financial issues and failed to be released a couple of times. However, Suriya jumped in the project and settled all the dues to find a smooth release for his younger brother’s debut film.
But filmmaker Ameer filed a case in court against Paruthiveeran producer KE Gnanavelraja, as his loans were not settled. His lawyer added Suriya and Karthi’s name in the complaint list too, as they were involved in the film’s investment. Following the hearing of both the sides, court dismissed Suriya and Kathi’s name and were pleaded not guilty.
Apart from Karthi, the film also had Priyamani as the female lead, while Ponvannan, Priyamani, Saravanan and Ganja Karuppu in supporting roles. Priyamani also won a National award for her powerful acting as Muthazhagu, considering her career's best performance.
Made in Rs 2.2 crore, the film grossed approximately Rs 15 crore. Paruthiveeran became one of the longest running films in Tamil and went on to bag a number of awards. The film bagged total 22 awards including the The Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Film, Best Actress and a Special Prize for debutant Karthi.
