Delhi University classes to be held online amid alarming surge in AQI level
New Delhi: With the Air Quality Index (AQI) level continuing to increase in Delhi and across North India, Delhi University has decided to stop offline classes and start online classes till November 23. For the last two days, several parts of the region have reported around or above 400 AQI levels.
Issuing a statement, the university said, “Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi & NCR has deteriorated to an alarmingly high index. In the larger interest of students, it has been decided that the classes shall be conducted in Online Mode till Saturday, 23rd November 2024,” the university said in a statement on Monday. It further said that while the offline classes will resume on November 25, the schedule for examinations and interviews will remain the same.
Class Xth and XIIth too to go in online mode in schools
The decision came after the Delhi Government announced that all classes will be held online till further orders. While on Sunday, the AAP Government announced that all classes except Xth and XIIth would go offline and move online till further orders, it shifted its decision on Monday and said that even the said two classes would go in online mode. Earlier on Monday, the city’s AQI level dipped to alarming levels on Monday. The smog has left people gasping for breath with itchy eyes and sore throats. The AQI Level of 494 on Monday was recorded second-worst in the last six years in Delhi.
Supreme Court comes down heavily on the Delhi Government
The Supreme Court also came down heavily on the Delhi Government and questioned the delay in the implementation of GRAP-IV. It further added that restrictions must l remain in place even if the AQI dips below 450. Notably, out of the 39 monitoring stations in Delhi, 15 of them recorded the air quality at 500.
